GCP EP. 008: Philip and the Eunuch

What’s the deal with the eunuch?

What is Philip doing by being his guide?

Is Philip literally teleported?

In this episode Josh wraps up our discussion on Acts 8 by continuing Philip’s story. We follow him towards Gaza where he runs into a eunuch and leads him to Christ. What can we learn from this interaction? We also tackle the wacky ending of the chapter in which Philip seemingly teleports from one place to the other.

Things to consider:

  • It’s made very clear in Philip’s story that his movement and motivation came from the work of the Holy Spirit.
  • Philip doesn’t bombard the eunuch with Jesus right away, but meets him where he’s at and leads him on a journey towards Jesus.
  • It’s absolutely possible that Philip was teleported by the Holy Spirit. There are some other points of view as well though.

What does this mean for you?: There’s a lot of application in this episode. The biggest lesson is that we have to learn how to follow the Holy Spirit in our lives. It’s very clear in the scripture that Philip listened to and followed the spirit and we need to do the same. Make sure that you don’t turn your inner dialogue into the Spirit though. Read the scripture and listen. They’re both necessary.
